What is Samarthanam Charity?
Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled is one of the biggest NGOs in India focused on the empowerment of people with disabilities and those who are economically or educationally disadvantaged. Established in 1997, Samarthanam Trust is a national award-winning organization founded by Mahanteshh G Kivadasannavar and Late Sugur Paramashivaiah Nagesh.
Samarthanam Trust’s main areas of focus include education, nutritious food, accommodation, vocational training, and placement-based rehabilitation to disabled and disadvantaged persons.
As of 2021, the organization provides full-cycle education and livelihood support to people who are disabled or come from underprivileged backgrounds.
History of Samarthanam Trust
Since 1997, Samarthanam Trust has been one of the pioneers in taking the initiative to help individuals with disabilities. In 2010, they formed the Cricket Association for the Blind in India. Over the years, the organization has established schools, livelihood resource centers, rehabilitation centers, and social enterprises across various geographies.

Samarthanam Trust has been catering to the educational, economic, and developmental needs of disabled persons for more than two decades. Here’s a quick overview of the work done by the organization.
Samarthanam Trust has established residential and non-residential schools for disabled and non-disabled individuals in India, the UK, and the USA. These schools are focused on ensuring holistic development across all disciplines.
Samarthanam environment projects have played a vital role in supporting green city initiatives in various parts of the country. The organization has been working on two major initiatives: PWOW and Parisara, which focus on Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. They also work towards sustainable waste management and waste segregation.
Samarthanam Trust established the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) in 2010. Since then, it’s been fostering the cricketing dreams of visually impaired cricketers. CABI is also affiliated with World Blind Cricket (WBC) Limited.
Arts and Culture
SUNADHA, Samarthanam Trust’s art and culture vertical, helps disabled individuals sing and perform on stage. SUNADHA also has international roots in the US and UK and has gradually developed into a globally renowned initiative with close to 50 performances abroad.
Samarthanam Trust has established Swadhara, a rehabilitation program intended to help women in distress and ensure the well-being of their children.
Health and Nutrition
Samarthanam Trust has launched Vidyaprasad, a mid-day meal program that provides fresh and nutritious meals to children and individuals with a lack of proper access to healthy food.
