United Way Mumbai: Providing Aid During COVID-19
The coronavirus pandemic has adversely impacted humankind worldwide. While some countries have managed to defeat the pandemic, others are still trying to do so. India, the second-most populated country in the world, is one of them. With about 27 million total cases, India is the second-most affected country after the USA.
In these hard times, United Way Mumbai is helping India fight against COVID-19. Let’s discuss their efforts and impact.

Fight Against COVID-19
As discussed, India is one of the worst-affected countries by COVID-19. United Way Mumbai has been actively involved in helping people since the onset of the pandemic in India. Here are the highlights of their fight against COVID-19.
Help Healthcare Workers and Hospitals
With the country’s healthcare infrastructure overwhelmed, frontline healthcare workers, are at the highest risk of COVID-19. United Way Mumbai has been empowering these workers by providing them with PPE kits, medical equipment, and other services to better serve their patients.
Spread Awareness Among People
There’s a lot of chaos and misinformation in India when it comes to COVID-19. This misinformation can adversely affect the country’s fight against the pandemic. United Way Mumbai has taken the initiative to spread awareness about COVID-19, appropriate behavior, and vaccinations, especially among low-income communities.
Facilitate Vaccinations
The WHO has stated that vaccination is the only feasible solution against COVID-19. However, in a country with a population of 1.36 billion, vaccinating everyone is challenging. Moreover, many people, especially from low-income communities, don’t know how to avail of vaccination. United Way Mumbai’s team is assisting people, mainly middle-aged and older adults, to get vaccinated.
Other Programs
Apart from their fight against COVID-19, United Way Mumbai has launched several campaigns to help those in need. Some of these campaigns are:
- Mission Mangroves: Aims to restore the rapidly depleting mangrove cover along the coastline of Mumbai.
- Let’s READ: Reach out to 5,000 underprivileged children and enable them to read
- Tata Mumbai Marathon: One of the top marathons in the world aimed at fundraising
- Project Poshan: To help children suffering from malnutrition
